Creating the Dress

The Finished Wedding Dress - Photograph reproduced with kind permission M NeevesIt all starts with the initial consultation, where we discuss the type and style of dress you would like and the image you are after.    I work with brides to include their ideas and it can be great fun just creating a new design.   I then produce a number of sketches for you to choose from.

It is important for the fabric and design to work together, so at this stage we look at fabrics.   I have a wide selection of bridal fabrics to choose from, this approach offers you total flexibility of style, fabric and price.

Once the design and fabric have been finalised I will make your toile.   This a ‘mock up’ of your wedding gown made from your personal measurements. There is no mass production.   Your gown is made to your body measurements and will fit only one person and that person is you.   Now your ideas will start to come alive.

At this stage we can perfect the design and fit. We can experiment with details, such as altering the neckline; train length or whatever detail we feel requires that finishing touch.

When everything is perfect and you are happy with all the details of your gown only then do I cut into your chosen fabric and start to make your wedding gown – now the fun really starts!

If you choose silk fabric for your wedding gown, then I use all couture techniques and hand finishes for a truly superb gown.   Only fine silks are used in couture.   Couture is synonymous with quality and that extends into the making techniques, the finish on the inside of the gown is as important as the outside.

Attention to detail is essential in couture, with the help of the toile every motif, embroidery or fabric pattern is arranged to give the most flattering look for the bride.

All consultations and fittings are undertaken at the Tessa Francis Studio at Yew Tree Farm nr. Henley in Arden.
