The Perfect Dress

Having your dress made is such a personal experience, you get totally involved in your gown.   The hunt for that perfect gown can be exciting but also exhausting. How do you choose a wedding gown when you are confronted with so many styles to choose from and every dress starts to look the same.   Here are a few styles and tips to help keep you focused.

The typical Cinderella type dress with fitted bodice, very full skirt of pleats or gathers or full of tulle!    Add a lace up corset to the ball gown and draw attention to a small waist.

Great… for those slimmer girls, will make you look curvy and if you want to cover those hips it will hide everything under that full skirt.

Not so great…for the petite girl this style tends to overwhelm a small frame.

One of the most flattering styles – cut narrow at the top, usually fitted and extends down the body (touching the hips) in the shape of a triangle.

Great…for almost all body shapes

Not so great.. almost no one..

MERMAID:

This is a figure skimming style that flares out into an “A” line at the lower thigh or knee.   This is for girls who want to accentuate their waist and hips without being too risqué.

Great…for girls with that hour glass shape.

Not so great… for small busts or small hips.

The in word for this romantic style is Goddess. This style is fitted to under the bust line and from here it can flare out with usually a softly gathered skirt. If chiffon is used in the skirt this style can look very soft and flowing – think of Jane Austin.

Great…for the smaller frame – gives the illusion of height and those with tummy issues the fullness of the skirt allows room for plenty of cover up.

Not so great…for full hips or the larger bust, can make you look top heavy.
